We tend to imagine the world as composed of separate things – selves and others, minds and bodies, subjects and objects – each existing independently, each coming into contact with others only secondarily. From this perspective, relationship is something that happens between already-existing entities. First there is you, then there is me, and then, perhaps, there is our relationship.
