The Path That Is Already Home
From the Presumption of Separation to the Recognition of Unity
Underlying the world as it appears to the senses lies a single, infinite, indivisible whole whose nature is consciousness, being, spirit or love. All spiritual paths, in their different ways, lead towards the recognition of this unity. This essay explores those paths and the one that does not lead towards unity but simply starts there.
All spiritual paths and practices, with one exception, start with the presumption of separation. Each makes varying degrees of concession to the separate self you seem to be and leads, more or less directly, from that self to the self you truly are: the one infinite, indivisible whole whose nature is consciousness or being, spirit or love.
In other words, all spiritual paths and practices – with one exception – lead from separation to unity, from ignorance to true knowledge, from darkness to light, from sorrow to peace. Sooner or later, more or less directly, all paths end in unity with that which truly is.
